We are in the middle of summer 2019 and as the weather is getting hotter and hotter and the temperature is almost 40 ℃, you ‘ll need a fresh salad for lunch or dinner rather than any hot meal. So…salad your way!
A lot of “Greek salad” recipes include leafy greens, such as lettuce, cabbage, radishes or even fruits, but those are not authentic ones.
Today we will give you one of the most famous Greek recipes worldwide, the one of Greek salad or “horiatiki” as we call it.
First and for most you will need to be prepared by buying fresh – good vegetables and some authentic Greek ingredients, such as feta cheese, Greek extra virgin olive oil and kalamata olives. Try checking a food import market in your country and get them, because once you taste the difference, you’ll know it was worth it!
- 2 large tomatoes
- 1/2 a large cucumber pilled
- 1 small green bell pepper
- 1/2 a large red onion
- 2/4 cup Kalamata olives
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 150 gr. authentic Feta cheese
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp capers
The only thing you need to do is to wash well your veggies and then slice them and put them in a bowl with kalamata olives, vinegar and sea salt. Then put the feta cheese above them and spread the olive oil, the oregano and the capers.
Extra tip -> you will need some fresh bread small slices for “vouta”, which means dive, so as to put them in the bottom of the bowl and taste the vegetable juices with olive oil, like all the genuine Greeks.
